Some handy Winter gardening tips!

ellevenlandscapes

Let’s kick it off with some winter gardening tips as we head into the cooler months….

PRUNING

Winter is the perfect time to get those secateurs sharpened! Pruning your frangipanis, crepe myrtle or summer flowering hedges is a good idea this time of year. Cutting any ornamental grasses down and spraying your lawn for bindii is also ideal.

VEGGIE GARDENS

Winter is a good time to give your veggie patch some TLC. Mix some compost through your soil and pull any plants that have died out to make room for some beautiful new additions. These new additions to your veggie patch could include cauliflower, carrots, garlic, radishes and lettuce. While not a veggie, strawberries can also be grown during winter.

CITRUS TREES

Winter is the perfect time to fertilise your citrus trees. This will give your trees more energy to produce their fruit, hopefully giving you a delicious amount of citrus for the season.

BULBS

Some bulbs you can plant through winter are tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths. These are perfect to plant through winter as they will start to sprout in early Spring. Place them in the ground or in pots for small pops of colour around your garden.

WEEDING

Winter is the ideal time to get on top of your weeding. This could include your garden beds, lawn, cleaning up your pavers or pathways from those pesky weeds that pop up. You ideally want to get on top of your weeds before Spring hits and your garden starts to boom again!
